In order to avoid damage to your Mobility Scooter and for your safety, we strongly recommend that you observe the following Do’s and Don’ts of Mobility Scooter Driving and Maintenance.

Do

• Read the operator manual before driving.
• Keep the operator manual in safe place at all times and try not to lose it.
• Remove ignition key if leaving the Mobility Scooter unattended at any time.
• Make sure the seating is locked in position before driving the Mobility Scooter.
• Drive to a complete stop before attempting to reverse the Mobility Scooter.
• Always drive at a slow sensible manner whilst pedestrians are around.
• When stopping on an incline, make sure the brake is securely engaged before dismounting the Mobility Scooter.
• Always follow local traffic regulations when using the Mobility Scooter.
• Always approach obstacles at a low speed if you are to drive over them e.g. speed humps.
• When crossing a road – always look for the nearest dropped kerb, do not crash up or down a full kerb as this will damage the underside of the Mobility Scooter.
• Keep the Mobility Scooter clean.
• Check the tyres (please note that pneumatic tyres do not need to be blown up).
• Ensure correct charging of the battery (see batter charging guidelines below).

Do Not

• Turn the Mobility Scooter at high speeds as this could result in the vehicle tipping over.
• Do not reverse down a steep hill or incline, as this could result in the vehicle tipping over.
• Do not sit on a Mobility Scooter whilst in transit in a moving vehicle.
• Do not allow anyone to ride with you on the Mobility Scooter.
• Do not operate the Mobility Scooter near stairs, steep kerbs or terraces where you might accidentally drop a wheel off the edge of stair, kerb or terrace.
• Do not disengage the brakes on a slope.
• Do not attempt to climb a kerb whilst driving at full speed.
• Do not disengage the brakes whilst someone is on the Mobility Scooter.
• Do not give the battery a short charge as this will weaken them (see battery charging guidelines below).

Battery Charging

Incorrect charging procedures can result in poor performance from your Mobility Scooter. The following guidelines should avoid any problems that may occur while hiring your Mobility Scooter.

• Charge the Mobility Scooters at least once a week, if in regular use. Twice a week for Small Mobility Scooters
• If you have a long day’s usage planned for the next day charge the Mobility Scooter overnight before to the day of use.
• Wherever possible carryout overnight charges.
• Be sure you are charging for a minimum of 8 hours (10 -12 hours is recommended).
• Depending on type of charger in use await the appearance of the green light (usually) on the charger, indicating charge is complete.
• It is recommended that you charge batteries as soon as possible once the meter reads 50% charge; this helps the life of the battery. Never wait until the battery strength is at its lowest before charging. It is advisable not to wait till the reading drops into the red!
• When travelling up an incline your mobility scooter meter reading is likely to drop as it uses more power. Thus to ensure a correct meter reading the mobility scooter must be on level ground when taking a meter reading.
• If you have only travelled a short distance, never make the mistake of giving a short charge, which will trick the battery into thinking it only needs a short charge and thus will quickly lose its strength.
• If you experience a reducing length of battery time on your mobility scooter please check the battery connections are tight and clean.

Please Note: Our scooters may be fitted with new batteries from time to time and it typically takes about 6-10 charges to get new batteries to 100% charge.
